What is OpenAV Cloud?
OpenAV Cloud is an industry-wide initiative bringing together leading AV manufacturers and technology providers to drive the adoption of open and standardized cloud connectivity, and API-driven innovation. OpenAV Cloud is a new industry initiative to create a seamless, interoperable, and a customer-first AV ecosystem that benefits the entire value chain - from manufacturers to integrators to end users.
What is the vision for OpenAV Cloud?
An open, integrated AV ecosystem where hardware and software seamlessly connect through cloud technologies and open APIs for the benefit of the customers.
Why now?
The AV industry is undergoing a fundamental shift to the cloud, but fragmentation and proprietary ecosystems slow down innovation. Customers demand flexibility, integration, and interoperability - and OpenAV Cloud provides the framework to meet these needs.

Who can join OpenAV Cloud, and what does it cost?
Nothing right now. Any organization connected to the AV industry may join for free.
What does it mean to be a member?
It means that you support the concept of open cloud APIs, and that you’re becoming part of a movement that’ll transform the industry. Each member company decides if/how/to what extent it wants to be involved in committees / setting the path forward.
Do I have to be a manufacturer to be a member?
No! Any technology member is welcome to join. We have industry partners, and are exploring ways to add developers, consultants and SIs in a more formal way. Please contact us for more details.
Are there any standards published yet?
Not yet –the objective of the group is to create a standard at some point, and currently encourage and work for API openness and accessibility.
Can system integrators join this initiative?
We are working on the framework to combine them as part of the initiative. Definitely get the details of interested people and we’ll be sure to update them.
What is the timeline for a standard?
We just formed this group, so all the foundations are being laid out right now, but we are hopeful to have some guidelines published next year.
I’m planning projects next year – is there anything I need to keep in mind?
We would recommend you try to stay away from proprietary protocols and make sure you choose vendors who support open cloud APIs.
Is AVIXA involved in this?
The initiative and AVIXA are in touch and are experimenting in what manner AVIXA should be involved. More to come.
