Digital Signs Go Up, Up and Up in Scandinavian Airport

Challenge:

When 68,000 passengers and 23,000 employees pass through a highly congested airport each day, installing 507 displays without interrupting operations is a big challenge. Installer AVC needed solutions that could be installed fast with the coordination of airport security to minimize the disruption.

Solution:

AVC used Chief digital signage mounting solutions throughout the project to create aesthetic, perfectly placed signage that both worked with the existing décor and optimized opportunities for marketing in the airport.

Chief’s ConnexSys Video Wall Mounting System solved common video wall challenges of speed, alignment, serviceability and rigidity. It provided the ability to level each row once by using strut channel to connect multiple mounts together.

By leveraging the worldwide strut channel standard, ConnexSys allows for easy mounting of displays whether on a wall or suspended from a ceiling. This feature also made it easier for the installers to fit the mounts to custom-made frames when needed for stunning results.

“We first saw ConnexSys last year at ISE and actually we didn’t consider any other products for the installation,” said Frederik Berg Rødbro, project manager at AVC. “It was a simple choice, really – I hadn’t seen anything like this product.”

In addition to quick row leveling, ConnexSys mounts can be precisely positioned on strut channel without the need for horizontal spacers. The RapidDraw display release gently and remotely pops any screen out 13.4” (34 cm) for easy access and service. The rigid frame keeps displays where the user sets them, even after extending for service.

ConnexSys was chosen for this project because of the ease of servicing the video walls after installation. Being able to pop out one screen without upsetting the whole wall was a useful feature. Tool free adjustments kept installation simple and versatile.

“The adjustment features are good, but Chief is well known for this on all its brackets so I didn’t expect any less,” Rødbro said.

Results:

The airport has been outfitted with more than 500 digital signage screens that can even adjust content based on passenger data for better targeted messaging. The placement using Chief mounts was successful and as non-invasive as possible. Advertising sales are up due to the signage, and the airport is looking to add more soon.

The impressive installations were used for the Chief EMEA catalog cover.
