Challenge
Located all the way up on the 24th floor, the NHOW Amsterdam RAI Hotel’s meeting room has a stunning view of the city with floor-to-ceiling windows. Due to the height of the ceiling, the old projection screen required an extended black drop of 300cm. The old screen was over 5 meters high and blocked a large part of the windows. Additionally, the screen was non-tensioned and not suitable for high resolution projection. It also started to show some signs of wear and tear.
Solution
When NHOW Amsterdam RAI Hotel asked for a replacement of their projection screen, Bazelmans reached out to Dennis Driessen, Sales Manager at Legrand AV. Bazelmans and Legrand AV have been working together successfully for years and Da-Lite is their go-to brand for all projection installations. When Bazelmans approached Legrand AV with this user case, we quickly agreed the existing screen should be replaced by a SightLine solution.
The new SightLine Cable-Drop system solves all the issues that needed to be solved. First of all, the cable-drop eliminated the blocked view caused by the black drop and now allows for open view of the beautiful Amsterdam scenery as the projection surface appears to be floating. In addition to this, a tensioned material was chosen to match the quality of the projector and prevent any pixel-loss.
The unique location meant it was a logistical challenge to do this screen replacement. With the Bazelmans team’s extensive experience, though, the job was done perfectly. In cooperation with Da-Lite, a custom made Tensioned DescenderPro Sightline with extended 300cm cable drop was recommended and installed. Da-Lite products are easy to install and it’s clear that they have been designed with the installer in mind. Kristy Bazelmans added “We also received great support from Legrand AV which helped us achieve this result.”
Result
Now that SightLine Cable-Drop has replaced the large black drop, the room’s unique features can really shine. It is a much more visually attractive installation and disappears completely when not in use as it is in-ceiling. “The end user is very happy with both the support received and the screen. It works perfectly and visitors can enjoy the city sights. A win-win!” mentions Kristy Bazelmans.
