Reflections on Da-Lite, Parallax and InfoComm 2018

Hi, I’m Ann. I’m the newbie at Da-Lite. I’m actually new to everything ProAV. I attended my first InfoComm this past June. I was struck by the level of passion and innovation I saw exhibited along with products.

Everyone is all-in when it comes to moving this industry forward. Gambling pun intended, I spent a week in Vegas after all. We all want the latest and greatest when it comes to technology in our personal lives. The stakes are even higher when meeting the demands of ProAV customers. (Okay, okay…last Vegas reference.)

One technological advancement I don’t want to get lost in the aftermath of InfoComm is ours. It’s avant-garde: as in advanced, pioneering, innovating. (Can you tell I was a fine arts student?) Since joining the Da-Lite team two short months ago, I’ve been super intrigued by ambient light rejection technology - especially our new, award-winning Parallax 2.3.

Before I get to that, bear with the newb for a second while she goes back to the basics. If you’re on the advanced track, skip to the exciting part. Literally, see The Exciting Part below.

What is Ambient Light Rejecting (ALR) screen technology?

Put simply, you don’t have to turn off the lights to see the screen clearly. Gone are the days of students (or coworkers) using the cover of darkness to nap during a presentation. No more waiting until long summer days are over to enjoy a movie in the backyard. Freedom to mount a screen in any environment without concern for light sources…think sports bars, manufacturing facilities, lobbies, hallways, conference rooms…anywhere!

The Science

Parallax is an ambient light-rejecting technology that features a micro-layered optical lens system that rejects light. It mimics the look of a television but without the glare from windows or lighting fixtures.

Each layer of Parallax plays a role in preserving the image that is reflected back to the viewer in high ambient light environments. Some layers absorb light while one special layer is saw-tooth shaped to block light while preserving a vibrant image.

The result? Preservation of high-contrast, bright images in brightly lit environments. Bonus: it’s so high-def, it can handle 4K, 8K and even 16K content!

The Exciting Part

Thanks to those on the advanced track if you stuck it out through that little review. You may now be asking yourself: what about the projector? Upgrading to a screen so advanced it’s future-proofed for 16K content without investing in a laser projector is a net zero, right? That may have been true until now. Are you ready for this?

Parallax 2.3 has the highest gain of all Parallax surfaces which means you can pair it with low-lumen projectors. How low? Rumor has it as low as 1500 – 5000 lumens, but don’t quote me on that just yet. The engineers are still finalizing the paperwork. Regardless of the numbers, you can enjoy the same bright image quality as any other Parallax surface, without upgrading the projector.

Don’t even get me started on the viewing angles of 2.3. You might expect them to suffer with such a high gain; however, the brightness drop-off is so gradual, image quality is beautifully maintained. I watched one booth visitor after another walk a wide arc around the screen. Some tried to subdue their approval, but you could see excitement in their eyes – imagining the possibilities for future installations.

Could we make the decision to #ALRlikeaBoss any easier? That’s one thing I’ve learned in my short time with Da-Lite. They’re really good at providing easy, elegant solutions – so easy, you might forget that it’s totally saving the day, especially when a project budget is on the line.

Da-Lite has you covered, not only with the best ALR technology on the market. Check out our expanded five-year warranty coverage. FIVE YEARS! You read that right. I mean, who else does that? Yep, it covers all the Parallax screens.

It’s a safe bet. (Couldn’t resist.)
